Poem by Laurie Barber
An early morning walk by placid lake
When mist's so soon dispelled by sun’s array;
Now bird may stir and spread her wings, and take
To beak a fly that's barely seen the day.
A plop — and fish-jump ripple breaks the mirror,
A zap — as frog takes in his morning meal;
There, cattails wet with glistening dew arear,
Beside the path, a ruined vessel’s keel.
Gaping holes house creatures of the night,
As I pause near, the breaking dawn inspires;
As lilies open, stretching to the light,
I being there find faith is shaped by sight.
